ImprobaBand: Day = Night

A superb evening of live improvised music and story.

Presented by Improbable.

On a dark February evening The ImprobaBand presented an evening of live music inspired by special guests.

The band from An Improbable Musical brought you a night of live music to remember in a series of intimate gigs. Led by composer, musical director and master musical improviser Chris Ash on keys, with Joley Cragg on percussion, Juliet Colyer on cello and Max Gittings on woodwind. Their music takes them from the National Theatre to one-to-one work with patients in hospitals, to the London Jazz Festival, Shakespeare’s Globe, and around the world on tour. Between them they’ve done everything from founding and leading Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, to performing with leading UK classical groups including Bournemouth Symphony and London Contemporary Orchestra.

Each night the band were joined by special guests to inspire a unique musical score that will only ever exist in that moment. A jazz tune sung by Josie Lawrence inspired by a local architect? A cello sonata inspired by chat between a chef and a designer? Niall Ashdown sings an operatic aria, inspired by a master carpenter? A funk-groove born from chapter 3 of a writer’s new novel? Local, fantastical, real and imagined came together in this part-gig, part-show, night for the musically curious.

Brought to you by the team behind the hit production An Improbable Musical this special series of performances stripped it back to a night of superb musical improvisation.
